What is full mouth restoration?

Full-mouth restoration is a comprehensive treatment plan designed to rebuild or replace all the teeth in your upper and lower jaws. Today, a full mouth restoration often includes implants. Unlike cosmetic fixes or individual tooth procedures, this approach addresses the full picture—function, appearance, and long-term oral health of the mouth and patient.

Many people pursue full-mouth restoration after dealing with years of dental problems—missing or failing teeth, worn enamel, chronic pain, or poorly fitting dentures. This isn’t just about improving how your smile looks. It’s about improving how your mouth functions.

What’s included in a full mouth restoration?

Your treatment starts with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation—3D imaging, limited intraoral scans, and impressions of your teeth—to enable precise, personalized planning.

Every case is different, but most treatment components can include one or more of the following:

Full-arch dental implants (4–6 implants per arch)

Crowns and bridges

Single or multiple implant restorations

Tooth extractions

Bone grafts to increase areas of bone deficiency

Veneers for aesthetic enhancement

Restoration vs. reconstruction vs. rehabilitation

You may see terms like full-mouth reconstruction or full-mouth rehabilitation used interchangeably by dental and medical literature. One term is not necessarily more or less comprehensive than another. Some patients are told their only option is dentures. In such cases, a full mouth dental implant restoration — typically involving 4–6 implants per arch — can offer a more stable, natural-feeling alternative.

You may be a candidate if experiencing:

Multiple missing or failing teeth

Severe tooth wear from grinding or acid reflux

Difficulty chewing or speaking

Jaw discomfort or bite misalignment

Unstable or sore-inducing dentures

Common treatable dental conditions include:

  • Extensive tooth loss or decay

  • Advanced gum disease

  • Bite issues affecting chewing, speaking, or jaw health

Factors affecting eligibility:

  • Overall health (diabetes or autoimmune disorders don’t always rule you out—your provider will evaluate your full health.)

  • Bone health, with grafting as a supportive option

  • Age, with jawbone condition being more relevant

Why choose full mouth dental implant restoration?

Offers unmatched stability vs. removable dentures
Helps preserve jawbone through natural load stimulation
Avoids gum pressure, reducing sore risk
Allows patients to comfortably eat a greater variety of food for nutrition
May result in long-term cost-savings through decreased replacements and maintenance
