The dental implant process, explained

At your free consultation, you’ll meet with your ClearChoice care team in a simple, stress-free environment, including the prosthodontist who will perform your procedure. From here. we’ll discuss your goals, answer your questions and explore your treatment options.

First, your care team will do a dental implant evaluation, including a free 3D CT scan. Then, we’ll talk through what to expect with dental implants, including a dental implant cost estimate.

Next, your ClearChoice care team will walk you through your personalized dental implants treatment plan and start preparing for dental implant surgery.

This plan is tailored to your specific needs, preferences and overall health. It includes details like how many implants you’ll need and where they will be placed. It also lays out the timeline for your surgery, healing and final restoration.

During the procedure, your ClearChoice oral surgeon will carefully place titanium implants in your jawbone. These serve as a sturdy base for your new teeth and will naturally integrate with your bone.

You’ll leave the same day with your first set of teeth, so you can test drive your new smile while you recover and feel how it works for you in real life. You’ll also leave with a detailed list of post-op instructions and schedule follow-up visits with your team to keep an eye on your healing.

With your implants and first set of teeth in place, the healing process begins. Your gums start to heal within a few weeks, but the deeper healing takes longer.

This is a process called osseointegration—it’s what happens when the implant naturally fuses to your jawbone over time. This keeps your new smile strong and stable, and generally takes 2 to 6 months.

Your first set of teeth give your mouth time to heal, and also lets you live with your smile before you lock it in. Your ClearChoice prosthodontist prepares your final smile while you heal, so that you can make any adjustments you’d like.

On the day of your final restoration, your team brings your smile to life with a fully-custom crown or arch. Your care team will check your bite and make sure everything is exactly the way you want it. With your dental implants treatment complete, we’ll schedule follow-up visits to keep your new smile in shape for years to come.

Your dental implant consult questions, answered

During a dental consultation, your team will do a thorough assessment of your teeth, gum tissues, bone structure and overall bite.

The team takes a 3D CT scan to get the full picture on your jawbone, sinuses, nerves, and any remaining teeth. This helps determine whether your bone is ready for dental implants, or if you might need a little extra prep, like a bone graft or sinus lift.

The timeline varies from 3 to 12 months, depending on your individual circumstances.
The dental implant process generally includes these key steps:

You should avoid alcohol before and after dental implant surgery, because it can cause bleeding complications.

You should also stop smoking and chewing tobacco. Not only will it discolor your new teeth; smoking significantly increases the risk of dental implant failure.
